SmarTown™ offers location based services to individuals who visit, live and do business in the Tampa Bay area. With a focus of safety first, SmarTown offers local internet based services supporting neighborhood specific information throughout the area. The purpose of this local blog is to offer residents, businesses and visitors of Tampa Bay an open forum in discussing the type and use of location based services in their community.
BayWalk will soon be offering free WiFi services which is just the start of the fun. They will also be offering services from St. Pete SmarTown including streaming webcasts from Tampa Bay's 10, BayWalk only text, voice and video instant message service, animation vobots offering on the spot specials and flash multi-player games. An announcement on the start of these exciting services will be made soon.

My research is focused on mobile broadband wireless networks and their location based applications. I am Director of ProjectSafety, a test model for building an indestructible and interoperable public safety and community mobile broadband network. I am also a Director of St. Pete SmarTown™ which is an operational location based community WiFi network located in downtown St. Petersburg. I have over 20 years experience in the design and deployment of local, regional and national wireline and wireless networks including carrier interconnection, co-location, ISP and data base hosting centers. I have built and deployed complete business models including Virtual Business Offices, Secure Multimedia Project Intranets and Location Based WiFi Portals. My guest speaker topics have included focuses on local Internet e-commerce, Internet security and first responder mobile broadband networks. I am a regular writer for MuniWireless and a consultant for the Federal Broadband Stimulus program.
